Surrounded by lush greenery and the slow-flowing Teshio River, this nature-rich campground offers AC power at every site for worry-free camping. Beginners can also enjoy a canoe trip gently down the great Teshio River. The river’s 20 canoe ports draw many enthusiasts, and the joint public-private effort to build a wide riverfront culture across the 13 municipalities along its course has been highly praised; fishing and forest bathing are also part of the appeal. Nakagawa is also known worldwide as a fossil site. The town is home to the Nakagawa Ecomuseum Center, which displays a reconstructed skeleton of a plesiosaur roughly 11 meters long — one of the largest ever found in Japan — alongside ammonites, sharks, dolphins, and other fossils, compared against specimens from around the world. A dinosaur claw fossil discovered in autumn 2000 has also drawn considerable attention.
