Frequently asked questions about renting a camper van with El Monte RV Japan.

A. A reservation can also be made on behalf of someone else. However, the renter listed on the contract must come to the shop in person on the day of pickup.
A. Reservations made through the online booking form are normally accepted up to 3 days before departure. If you wish to depart within 3 days, please contact the El Monte RV Support Center (Mail: contact@elmonterv-japan.com). Please note that reservations fill up quickly during peak seasons, so we recommend booking as early as possible.
A. Reservations can be made up to one year in advance of your departure date and time.
A. For cancellations and reservation changes, please use the contact form or call the El Monte RV Support Center (Mail: contact@elmonterv-japan.com).
For cancellation fees, please refer to our Cancellation Policy.
A. Depending on your email filter settings, our confirmation email may not arrive. Please add “@elmonterv-japan.com” to your list of allowed domains.
If you do not receive a confirmation email by the day after your reservation request, please call the El Monte RV Support Center (Mail: contact@elmonterv-japan.com) to confirm.
A. Yes, all of our vehicles are automatic (AT).
A. Yes, a regular Japanese driver’s license is sufficient to drive our vehicles.
A. Drivers under the age of 22 are not allowed to drive our vehicles.
In addition, individuals who have held a driver's license for less than three years are not permitted to drive.
A. You can rent an ETC card.
A. Under Japan’s Road Traffic Act, drivers are required to use a child safety seat when transporting a child under 6 years of age.
A. Yes, all vehicles are equipped with either a display audio system or a car navigation system.
A. Yes. To bring a pet on board, please apply for the “Pet Option Service” (an additional 20% of the rental fee). If a pet is found in the vehicle without prior application, a cleaning fee of 50% of the rental fee will be charged.
A. Basic insurance coverage is already included in your rental fee, so you do not need to take out additional insurance. However, although enrollment is optional, we strongly recommend the “Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)” and “Non-operation charge waiver system (NOCW)” in case of an accident. For details, please see our Insurance & Coverage page.
A. CDW is an optional program that, in the event of an accident, waives the vehicle deductible and third-party property deductible that would otherwise be the customer’s responsibility. For details, please see our Insurance & Coverage page.
* CDW and NOCW is not an insurance product.
A. NOC is a charge paid by the customer to El Monte RV to partially compensate for lost business during the repair or cleaning period when an accident, theft, breakdown, or contamination occurs for reasons not attributable to El Monte RV. The amount is fixed regardless of the extent of the damage or the time required for repair.
A. NOCW is an optional service that exempts you from a portion of the Non-Operation Charge. For details, please see our Insurance & Coverage page.
A. In the following cases, where responsibility lies with the customer, the insurance and coverage program does not apply and the full amount will be charged to the customer.
· The accident was not reported to the police (no accident certificate available)
· The accident occurred while the vehicle was being driven by someone other than the registered driver(s)
· The accident occurred while driving without a valid license
· The accident occurred while driving under the influence of alcohol
· The accident occurred while the vehicle was being used beyond the rental period without notice
· The customer is responsible for issues related to the use or management of the vehicle
· The customer settled the matter privately without authorization
· There was a violation of the rental agreement
· Any other reason attributable to the customer
A. Yes. As long as a driver was registered at the time of vehicle pickup, the same insurance and coverage that applies to the renter will also apply to that driver. Note, however, that the additional driver is subject to the same exclusions as the renter, so please also see the answer above regarding cases where the program does not apply.
A. No cancellation fee applies up to 45 days before the pickup date. From 44 days before pickup onward, cancellation fees apply. For details, please see our Cancellation Policy.
A. Yes, receipts are available on request. Please contact us if you need one.
A. No, the rental fee does not change based on mileage. However, please return the vehicle with a full tank of the manufacturer-specified fuel, refilled at a nearby gas station before your scheduled return time. If you are unable to return the vehicle with a full tank, an additional charge of JPY 2,200 (tax included, handling fee included) will apply for every gauge unit (approximately 15 liters) of missing fuel.
A. On the day of pickup, please bring:
(1) Case 1: Passport + International Driving Permit (obtained in a country signatory to the Geneva Convention)
Case 2: Passport + Foreign Driver’s License (issued in Taiwan, Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, Monaco) + Official Japanese Translation
(2) The funds for any outstanding payment (if not yet paid)
A. Yes. At the “El Monte RV Japan Funabashi office”, we can keep your personal car free of charge during your rental. However, we may have to decline depending on parking availability or busy seasons, so please call the Funabashi office in advance (Tel. 0120-905-747). Please note that we cannot compensate for any damage that occurs to your car while it is in our keeping.
A. In principle, all drivers should come to the shop.
A. You can stay at RV Parks and auto-camp grounds across Japan. You can see lodging facilities recommended by El Monte RV at the links below. (All content below is in Japanese. An English version is currently being prepared.)

A. The vehicle is provided with a full tank, so please return it with a full tank of the fuel specified by the vehicle manufacturer. If you are unable to return the vehicle with a full tank, an additional charge of JPY 2,200 (tax included, handling fee included) will apply for every gauge unit (approximately 15 liters) of missing fuel.
A. If you are involved in an accident, please follow these three steps promptly.
These steps include important procedures required to apply your insurance / coverage, so please be sure not to skip any of them.

(1) Help the injured
First, attend to anyone who is injured. After that, move the rental vehicle to a place where it does not obstruct other traffic.

(2) Report to the police
Both parties to an accident are legally obligated to report it to the police. An accident certificate will be required later, so please complete the necessary procedures.

(3) Contact El Monte RV
With your rental contract on hand, please be sure to call the El Monte RV Support Center (Mail: contact@elmonterv-japan.com Tel: 03-3437-3131).
A. Yes. Regardless of the size of the scratch or dent, and regardless of whether another party is involved, it is treated as an “accident”. Please follow the procedures above, including when you are unsure how to judge the situation. (If the required procedures are not taken, insurance / coverage will not apply, and the customer will bear the full cost.)
Please also note that the following amounts will be charged as a partial compensation for lost business during the repair period, regardless of the extent of the damage or the time required for repair.

· Non-Operation Charge (NOC)
Vehicle returned under its own power to the planned return location (repair within 1 week): JPY 50,000 (non-taxable)
Vehicle returned under its own power to the planned return location (repair within 2 weeks): JPY 100,000 (non-taxable)
Vehicle returned under its own power to the planned return location (repair takes 15 days or more): JPY 200,000 (non-taxable)
Vehicle returned under its own power to the planned return location (repair takes 31 days or more): JPY 400,000 (non-taxable)
A. As a rule, we are unable to provide refunds for early returns. Please understand this in advance.
